Yemen’s Rebel Government Threatens to Close Schools

Yemen is caught in a battle for power between the “internationally recognized government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi” and the Huthis. The Huthis control Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, and this battle between the two powers has wreaked havoc on Yemen’s schools. The youth minister suggested using a teacher’s strike to send students to fight on the front, for which he was largely criticized. Most of Yemen’s schools have been negatively affected by a salary crunch, and hundreds of schools have been damaged, seized by force, or repurposed for shelters.
