Niger (International Christian Concern) – Boko Haram has continued it reign of terror in Northeastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad regions of Cameroon and Niger. Late last week, the terrorist group from Borno State, Nigeria, crossed into Niger and conducted two attacks in the Diffa Region of Southern Niger. The first of these attacks led to the deaths of seven mining workers from the FORACO mining company.
Then 48 hours later, they returned and kidnapped 15 young schoolgirls from two different villages. There have been no ransom demands as of yet. This kidnapping is reminiscent of the kidnappings of the Dapchi and Chibok girls in 2017 and 2014 respectively. Over 100 of the girls from Chibok, as well as the only Christian girls from Dapchi are still missing and in captivity.
The government of Nigeria, as well as Niger and Cameroon, must begin to better protect their citizens and children from these types of attack. As they continue to be successful in these kidnappings, they will become more prevalent. The Nigerian government must also stop lying to the world about the great progress that they have made in the fight with Boko Haram. They must admit that they are not winning and must be willing to ask for help in defeating this evil group.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for the loved ones of those killed or kidnapped in these attacks. Pray for the swift release of the 15 schoolgirls. Pray for the girls to remain strong in their faith during their time in captivity.
