Iranian Christian Banned from Social Activities

Date:  July 24, 2019

Iran (International Christian Concern) –  Earlier this year, Iranian Christian Convert Fatimeh Bakhteri lost her appeal against a one-year prison sentence for “spreading propaganda against the regime.” She has not yet been summoned to prison. However, it has now come to light that her sentence includes a two-year ban on all social activities that involve more than 2 people.

This ban effectively keeps Bakhteri from enjoying average social activities and practicing her faith. A local contact told Article 18 that for Bakhteri, the potential of this ban is harder than the jail sentence.

During Bakhteri’s judicial proceedings, her alleged crime was barely discussed. Instead, judges Ahmadzadeh and Babaee attempted to pressure her return to Islam. Bakhteri was first arrested in the city of Rasht three years ago, but had experienced prolonged harassment prior to the arrest. It is not known when she will receive a summons to begin her prison sentence. In some cases, years can pass between a lost appeal and a summons.

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for this ban on Fatimeh’s social activities to be lifted. Pray for Fatimeh’s prison sentence to be dropped. Pray for the freedom of all Iranian Christians who have been falsely charged.
