Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – According to Sahara Reporters, gunmen suspected to be Fulani militants killed a Nigerian pastor and one other civilian on Monday in Kaduna state, Nigeria.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous confirmed the incident to Punch news, stating that the gunmen shot the duo while they were on their way home from their farms on Monday evening.

“The Fulani have turned our farms into grazing fields and we have been living under security threats,” said the source.

The state Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. John Joseph Hayab, confirmed the incident to Daily Post Nigeria, stating, “We are living in a sympathetic situation that people are being killed for no just cause. Indeed, something urgent needs to be done to arrest the situation to save people from the ugly situation that is on the increase every day. I also pray that God in His mercy gives our leaders the wisdom and understanding to be able to bring the situation under control and enable them to freely go about their normal way of life.”

The Fulani are an ethnic group, most of whom live at peace with their neighbors. Fulani Militants, however, are members of the Fulani ethnic group who have been radicalized by a form of extreme Islam. These militants use their trade in cattle to move throughout the country, killing Christians, destroying villages, and taking land.

On December 7th, The U.S. State Department added Nigeria to their list of Countries of Particular Concern for tolerating “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom.”

HOW TO PRAY:  Please pray for peace in Nigeria, and for the Lord to comfort those grieving the loss of loved ones due to violence. Please also pray for the perpetrators of this attack, that they will be blessed with knowing the truth of the gospel and accept Jesus as their savior.  Pray for an end to Fulani-led violence. Pray for greater security measures for Christian communities throughout Nigeria.
