Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. (Mark 10:16 NLT)

Today on World Children’s Day, let’s reflect the love and care of Jesus by praying for children who are experiencing injustice. Here are four prayers you can use, with links to videos and blogs where you can find out more:

A prayer for children whose parents are in prison.

God of all comfort, we bring before you all those who are separated from a parent by unjust imprisonment.

We particularly remember the daughter and son of Pastor Lorenzo, who has been detained in Cuba since the peaceful protests of 11 July. May they know that you are with them as they process the distressing details of their father’s ordeal. Help them to find hope every day, even in the midst of uncertainty and pain. Amen.

Watch: Pastor Lorenzo’s family are calling for his freedom.

For the Du Merci children in Nigeria.

Father God, we pray for the physical and emotional healing of all the children who were taken from the Du Merci orphanages in December 2019. We ask especially for adequate follow-up treatment for Moses Tarfa, who suffered burns at the government-run home where he was placed. Restore his body, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

A prayer for displaced children.

God of refuge and strength, we lift up to you the children who have been forced to flee their homes and are now growing up in refugee camps. We lament at the scale of the crisis in countries like Syria, Myanmar/Burma, Afghanistan, Eritrea and others. We ask for provision and peace to come quickly. Amen.

Watch: Pastor Nihad Hassan speaks to children at a refugee camp in Syria.

Pray for a fair education.

Lord, we pray that every child will be able to enjoy their right to education alongside their right to freedom of religion or belief. Protect and encourage students who suffer daily discrimination because of the school curriculum in countries like Pakistan and Colombia. May the government work towards a fair curriculum for every citizen, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
