China (International Christian Concern) – Berea Church, a house church in Putian, Fujian Province, was recently shut down for “conducting activities in the name of a social group without authorization,” according to news source China Christian Daily.

The Putian Bureau of Civil Affairs shut down the church on September 26, according to the local authorities.

In a report published about the incident, the Bureau claimed that “Upon investigation, ‘Berea’ Church which was not registered, carried out activities in the name of a social group without authorization. This violated Article 32 of Regulation on the Administration of the Registration of Social Organizations and Article 2 of the Interim Measures for Banning Illegal Non-Governmental Organizations.”

Gina Goh, ICC’s Regional Manager for Southeast Asia, said, “In this day and age, where any religion in China has to submit itself to the control of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and President Xi Jinping, it is no longer a surprise that a house church is seen as an enemy of the state and clamped down upon. China’s blindness to its violation of religious freedom needs to be continuously exposed so that Beijing knows it cannot get away with performing these evil acts.”

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for the believers of the house church, that they can still worship God despite having their church shut down.
