On this very day 238 years ago, the Virginia General Assembly adopted Thomas Jefferson's milestone Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, paving the way for the passage of the First Amendment of the Constitution guaranteeing American citizens religious liberty and prohibiting the government's designation of a national faith. What culminated over the past nearly three centuries was the weaving of a diverse social tapestry in which Americans from endless faith traditions can manifest their beliefs freely, without government intrusion, and in community with others. Religious Freedom Day serves as a poignant reminder that the principles of interfaith tolerance, understanding, and coexistence uphold the status of our nation as a beacon of unity and acceptance for all.

Although Religious Freedom Day anchors its roots in 18th century Virginia, we are reminded that the United States serves as an example of the enduring success of interfaith harmony and we are encouraged to replicate the accomplishment of religious freedom in countries across the world where faith minorities - Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and more - have not yet been able to fully experience the jubilation and triumph of unencumbered religious liberty.

"We believe that nations are stronger, and the lives of their people richer, when citizens have the freedom to choose, proclaim, and exercise their religious identity."

- Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

As we commemorate Religious Freedom Day, we invite you to join us in championing a cause that transcends borders and touches the lives of countless individuals worldwide. The right to practice one's faith freely is a fundamental human right that, unfortunately, remains threatened in various parts of the globe. Your support can make a meaningful impact in advancing international religious freedom, promoting tolerance, and fostering a world where diverse beliefs are respected. We thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
