Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Survivors of a brutal, four-day attack that claimed the lives of more than 200 Nigerian Christians are struggling to start over in IDP camps that lack necessities.
Villagers in Plateau State accused radical Fulani militias of carrying out the attacks in Mangu, Barkin, Ladi, Bokkos, and Jos East counties. No arrests have been made.
An International Christian Concern (ICC) staffer visited one IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camp in Barkin Ladi County that housed more than 1,000 Christians without safe access to water. The staffer saw how women and children were suffering to get water from a small hole and were pleading with the international community to supply food and water.
The coordinator of the government-run Barkin Ladi IDP camp said that women are suffering greatly in the camp without access to a good water supply. IDP Coordinator David Nanpet said he lost 21 people from his community on the Christmas Eve massacre in Barkin Ladi, and nine people were injured.
“The attack lasted for four days,” said Nanpet, adding that his village is now empty after all their houses and four churches were burned. He said radical Fulani from outside the area carried out the attack, “a well-coordinated one.”
