Today we focus our prayers on Pakistan, where elections are due to take place in just a few days’ time.
It is particularly important to remember religious minorities at times like these, as well as others who may be at greater risk of being targeted or harassed.
Please join us in praying:
- For the elections to take place peacefully on 8 February, with no violence or terrorist incidents.
- For the elections to be free and fair, with democratic values upheld.
- For the safety of marginalised and vulnerable faith-based communities. Pray against any targeting from political parties or extremist groups, because of their religion or belief.
- That whichever government comes into power would work for a more peaceful and inclusive Pakistan, where all religious and sectarian minorities can enjoy equal rights and protections.
- That those in positions of authority would act with integrity and justice in all they do.
As we pray today, let’s reflect on these words from Isaiah 9. Give thanks that the Lord reigns over all, and his kingdom is one of justice, righteousness and peace:
'For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.'
