Indonesia (International Christian Concern) — Four Muslim men attacked several Catholic students from Pamulang University as the students finished an evening prayer service on Sunday, May 5, in South Tangerang City, Banten Province, Indonesia.

Around 8 p.m., the leader of the neighborhood where the students were praying approached the students, shouting at them and threatening to round up locals to attack them. He left and later returned with three others. The men attacked the students, beating them and cutting them with knives. Two of the students sustained injuries. A bystander recorded the incident and shared the footage on social media.

One student said the neighborhood leader had reprimanded several Catholic students last year and told them that non-Muslims should not be allowed to worship in the area.

“Last year, we gave in and did not report it anywhere,” the student said. “We chose to focus on (our studies).”

South Tangerang Police have charged four suspects, including the neighborhood leader. South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie emphasized that members of his community must respect the religious beliefs of others.

“Events like yesterday should not be repeated in South Tangerang,” Davnie said. “There is no place in South Tangerang for intolerance.”

HOW TO PRAY: Pray for healing for the students who were injured. Pray for their attackers to come to know the love of Christ. Pray for these men to be held accountable for their actions.
