(Worthy News) – Police in Punjab Province, Pakistan, have refused to arrest an Islamic man who is accused of raping a young Christian woman at gunpoint earlier this month, Morning Star News (MSN) reports.
A resident of Kot Ranjeet Singh in Sheikhupura District, Punjab Province, 18-year-old Imman Khurrum, has told police she was raped by Islamist Ansar Shah on her way home from the shoe factory where she works, MSN reports. Shah forcefully took her to an abandoned brick kiln where he first tortured then raped her, Khurrum said in a video statement to National News Nama after police refused to take up her case.
“He threatened to kill my brothers and forced me to sit on his motorcycle,” Khurrum told NNN. “After reaching the kiln, he dragged me into a room, tore my clothes and raped me. During this time, he repeatedly slapped and beat me up.”
“My daughter was targeted because we are poor and weak Christians,” Khurrum’s mother Sana is heard to add in the NNN video.
Concerning police inaction over the brutal attack on Imman, her uncle Khurrum told MSN, “We demand immediate legal action against Shah and protection for our family. We are poor people and do not have the resources to hire a good lawyer.”
“The Punjab chief minister and inspector general of police should take notice of our plight and order immediate arrest and prosecution of the accused,” Nazir said. “Shah must be punished for his crime; failure to do so will put other Christian girls also at risk of being attacked.”
With a growing number of Christian women being sexually abused, abducted, and forced into Islamic marriages, Pakistan ranks seven on the Open Doors World Watch List 2024 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.
