Help Christians in India Like Chhatar Singh
|
||
Chhatar Singh, a schoolteacher in India, left Hinduism and placed his faith in Christ in 2002. Since then, he has planted churches in seven villages. As the oldest son, Chhatar was expected to lead the Hindu funeral rituals for his mother when she died in 2010. However, he refused to participate because of his faith in Christ, which turned his father against him. On January 27, 2021, police arrested Chhatar and three other Christians on false charges of forced conversion. Anti-conversion laws supported by Hindu nationalists make it illegal for Christians to tell others about Christ. Many of these policies are intentionally vague to prevent Christian activity; as a result, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ, like Chhatar, have been arrested and imprisoned. Chhatar and the other Christians arrested with him spent a month in jail, and Chhatar was suspended from his job. In July 2024, Chhatar’s father cut off his inheritance and filed a criminal complaint against him, saying Chhatar had tried to “forcibly” convert him to Christianity. Chhatar spent another 20 days in jail before bail was granted. Chhatar’s children asked their grandfather to withdraw the case, which he said he would do if they denied Jesus. The children told their grandfather that they were proud of their father for standing up for his faith and that they would never deny Christ. We invite you to support our persecuted Christian family members in India, like Chhatar, by praying for them and giving to meet their needs. Join others in letting them know they’re not alone.
