Dear Roxann,

On February 6th, athletes from around the globe will gather together in Italy to walk in the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Olympic Games, kicking off one of the world’s most popular sporting events.

This year, you can follow the Olympics in a surprising way: by praying! Fourteen countries participating in the Olympic Games are also on Open Doors 2026 World Watch List, the annual list of the 50 places where faith costs the most.

I encourage you to take time to read through this list and pray for your brothers and sisters as they risk everything to follow Jesus.

At their best, the Olympic Games are a time for people from countries across the world to put aside differences and compete in a peaceful way, a reminder that all people share common humanity. For Christians, the Olympics can be a visible reminder that every human being is made in God’s image.

As we acknowledge the truth that every person living on planet Earth is beloved by God, we can also pray for our brothers and sisters who face persecution and discrimination for their faith.

As you cheer on your favorite athletes and maybe even watch an event for the first time, I hope you’ll remember to also pray for your brothers and sisters across the globe.

In Christ,

Ryan Brown
