This week we received an urgent prayer request for Kamran*, an Iranian Christian convert in Türkiye who is at imminent risk of being forcibly returned to Iran.
If this happens, he would almost certainly be arrested and sent to a detention centre, where he is likely to be interrogated, mistreated, threatened or even tortured by the authorities.
We have not received an update on his situation, but continue to pray in faith.
- Please pray that Kamran would not be returned forcibly, but would be allowed to leave Türkiye for a safe country.
Here are two more prayer points for Iran:
- For an end to the deadly crackdown. When widespread protests began on 28 December, the Iranian government launched a lethal response.
Despite an internet blackout, you probably saw the shocking news emerge that thousands had been killed and tens of thousands arrested. It has been described as possibly the deadliest crackdown in Iran since the 1979 revolution.
We cry out to God for peace, accountability and freedom.
- For Christians marking the start of Lent. Ask God for his special protection over Christians in Iran – especially those who have converted from Islam. They regularly face discrimination, arrest, imprisonment or even torture for exercising the right to embrace a religion or belief of their choice.
Iran’s Christian community is often punished for normal practices like gathering for prayer or taking wine during communion, and even social gatherings like birthday parties or picnics can potentially be deemed to be ‘house church’ activity.
We’ve written a series of Lent prayers to help us reflect on Jesus’s journey to the cross and remember Christians around the world who may be especially vulnerable at this time of year.
