Inside China's Underground Church

China doesn't want young people to hear about Jesus. But it's happening anyway.

If you were with Jinyi* the day the raid happened, would you have sensed danger? The muffled footsteps outside. The knock at the door.

More than 100 young believers were worshiping in secret when police burst into Jinyi’s underground church meeting. Panic spread. Jinyi’s husband Zhang*, the leader, was arrested and imprisoned. This gathering of believers, considered illegal in China, was no more.

And Jinyi is not alone.

Right now, China’s underground church is under pressure. With the state tightening its grip on religion, the future is uncertain.
