Could you stay quiet about your faith if sharing the good news of Jesus meant putting you and your family at risk? Christians in Afghanistan live with this struggle every day.

On the fifth anniversary of the Taliban takeover, we spoke with an Open Doors spokesperson in the region we will call Adam (not his real name for his safety). He told us that the situation is extremely dire for Christians.

Just like other Christians in Laos and China we’ve talked to you about in the last few months, Christians in Afghanistan have been driven deep underground. They face intense persecution from family, friends and the government if they choose to follow Jesus.

But something Adam said really stuck with me: “When I began this ministry, I wondered whether a Christian could remain secret and silent—pretending to be Muslim while living as a Christian and avoiding the price. I can say it is not possible.”

An update on Afghanistan

Even under intense pressure, the joy of the Gospel is too powerful not to share. We can’t know all the secret conversations that happen in Afghanistan, but Adam was able to share some stories of people who sacrificed everything to share the good news of Jesus with friends and family.

Will you take a moment and join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan? Pray for their safety but also for a heart change in the Taliban.

Thank you for helping us walk alongside these believers. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

In Christ,

Ryan Brown
