They burned Bibles in Shanghai. The Church did not die.
In August 1966, Red Guards burned Bibles in the streets of Shanghai and wrecked churches. Official worship vanished. Pastors, including those in state-recognized pulpits, were sent to labor camps. When sanctioned churches reopened years later, authorities recorded about three million Protestants, far more than the roughly 700,000 estimated when the Communist Party took power in 1949. Watch Now
