More than 70 years ago, Brother Andrew made his first crossing through the Iron Curtain. Over the years he would make many more visits, putting himself in harm's way because he felt God’s call to care for Christians who live in hard places.

Open Doors carries that same mission forward over seven decades later.

I want to tell you the story of Brother Sung-Eun, an Open Doors fieldworker who works with North Korean Christians.

That’s not even his real name. We can’t even tell you where he lives and works.

He faces the constant threat of surveillance. North Korean agents are on constant alert for him. His team member had to go into hiding.

But despite the risks, he continues to minister to Christians from the most difficult place in the world to follow Jesus. He carries the words of Brother Andrew with him: “I may be the first and last Christian this person will ever meet in their lifetime.”

The risks he takes are a reminder of the intense persecution North Korean believers live in every day. The situation seems hopeless for everyone.

But we do not serve a hopeless God.

Through brave workers like Sung-Eun, God’s love is carried into even the most remote places. I invite you to read the story of his work. It’s a look into how God is working and a reminder that God’s hope isn’t an abstract thing - it is the very thing Sung-Eun and others cling to.

We can’t do this work alone though. Your prayers for the persecuted church are the most vital resource we have.

As Sung-Eun reminds us: “Through your prayers and support, [secret believers] are able to remain faithful and to share even one more word about Jesus. I want to use this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude. Through your prayers and support, you help to protect them and preserve their lives.”

Please read this story of how God is working in North Korea, then I ask you to join me in praying for our brothers and sisters around the world who risk everything for Jesus.

Thank you seeing. Thank you for praying.

In Christ,
