So the last will be first, and the first will be last

Matthew 20:1–16 is usually called Jesus’ parable of the workers in the vineyard, but it is better to call it Jesus’ parable of the generous vineyard owner.

As we mentioned recently, anytime you are reading a parable, in order to understand it correctly, you always have to start outside the parable and find out the context. Jesus always tells his parables in response to something.

Russia: Missionary Park Tae Yeon sentenced to 5 years 8 months in prison

As first reported by Voice of the Martyrs Korea, Korean Missionary Park Tae-Yeon was sentenced today in Khabarovsk Court to a total of 5 years 8 months on two immigration-related charges. The sentence is to be served in a general-regime correctional colony. An appeal to a higher court on Missionary Park’s behalf is planned.

Missionary Park was taken to a pre-trial detention center (SIZO) immediately after the hearing, where she will remain pending the results of the appeal. Until now she had been held in a detention center for foreign nationals. If the higher court upholds the sentence without modification, Missionary Park will most likely be sent to a women’s correctional colony located in the village of Zaozernoye, Khabarovsk Krai, just beyond the city of Khabarovsk.

What would Jesus ask you if you were alone in a room with him?

Would Jesus ask you about your secret sin? Maybe Jesus would tell you who you should marry? Or, possibly what job you should take? How much he loves you?

Pastor Foley's above blog post is on the same topic. You can read it here.

No. When you get Jesus in a room alone, what he talks about is your care for his “little ones”. Remember—that’s what Jesus calls those who believe in Christ and who are your brothers and sisters now that you have been baptized into Christ.

Urgent Prayer Requests

We give the Lord thanks for the 16 Russian and Ukrainian pastors who attended our UU Russia training last month.

Continue to pray for Missionary Park who is imprisoned in Russia. She received a verdict of guilty and a sentence of five years and eight months. Please pray for a successful appeal of that decision. Pray also that she would remain joyful amid her imprisonment and that she would experience God’s presence. Pray that the Lord will use her to reach others in prison.

Pray for those inside of North Korea who receive audio Bibles. Pray that the Bibles would go undetected as they cross the border. Pray that the word of God would be received with open ears and open hearts by the NKs who receive the devices.
