PSALM 143:8
“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life.”
David writes as a man in turmoil. The enemy has pursued him. His spirit is blacking out. His heart is appalled (Psalm 143:3-4). David is not waking up mid-morning at a cozy B&B. It’s more like a battle, and his enemy is actively pursuing him.
It’s more like how it is most days for us, even though the warfare against us is largely unseen. Soon as we wake up, the prince of the air is ready to attack us and find ourselves waking up in a war zone. The decisive battle has been won, after all. Our Savior’s blood was spilled for victory when our sins were nailed through JESUS’ hands. When He died, we died. When He conquered death, we conquered with Him, and every force set against us was exposed to open defeat and shame. The hope of our soul’s salvation is not dependent upon how quickly we spring out of bed. But we will get up, and whenever we do, the scheming principalities are soaring. Circumstances breathe down our necks. Anxiety and stress start pounding on our doors.
This is where David’s prayer in Psalm 143:8 helps. He gets to the heart of the matter. First things first. Let us soak in GOD’s truth and then submit all our doing to His guidance.
The best way to start the day, everyday, is with this kind of prayer: “Let me hear and lead me on….Let us first hear of GOD’s steadfast love and steady our thoughts on this anchor: ABBA GOD shows His love for us in that while we were still a sinner, CHRIST died for us Romans 5:8). For our sake, GOD made His sinless Son to be sin so that in CHRIST we might become His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21) —JESUS CHRIST redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. Let us receive His Words of comfort and love. Let us rest firmly in the gospel of His grace — that HE loves you and me, that He has His grip on us, that He is never letting you and me go. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Let us hear this because it’s in GOD we have hope and not from anyone or anything that’s otherwise….He tells us what truth really is. ABBA GOD is the one we believe!
Prayer:
ABBA FATHER, make us know the way. We all are called to productivity, meaning that we all will say things and do things and decide things. Praying You’ll help us demolish the idea that we have it all figured out. Give us the wisdom we lack. Lead us by Your sovereign hand. You are our Almighty GOD! We are Your sons and daughters so we lift up our hearts to You. We need You and we’ll never stop needing You! We desire Your nearness now and at all times, and we need Your compassion, grace and Your guidance today and always, that we may honor You, please and obey You until the soon return of our King JESUS! In His Name we pray. Amen.
