Deuteronomy 30:6
“The LORD your GOD will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you will love the LORD your GOD with all your heart and with all your soul, and you will live,"
Under the Old Testament, circumcision was personal for the individual concerned, his parents, and his wife. This outward sign symbolized an inward commitment.
Although following GOD requires commitment and obedience, His benefits and blessings far outweigh our cost of discomfort or inconvenience.
How does the biblical command for circumcision relate to us today? -Once an individual was circumcised, there was no turning back. Similarly, GOD wants us to commit our lives to Him, walking blamelessly before Him by not turning back and indulging in sin.
What then is a pure heart?
It is meek, humble, guileless, simple, trusting, true, gentle, unsuspicious, good, kind, not covetous, not envious, not adulterous. A pure heart refuses to be corrupted and influenced by any fleshly, worldly, and ungodly source.
In CHRIST, it will serve us well to remember our heavenly calling and dignity and not be disturbed by corruptible, earthly and worthless things.
Deuteronomy 30:6 speaks of the kind of circumcision that counts—circumcision of the heart—operated by the HOLY SPIRIT. It involves cutting away the old sinful nature instead of just mechanically observing the written code.
Prayer:
Heavenly FATHER, thank You that in Your grace, You offer the free blessing of salvation to all who will trust in CHRIST JESUS as Savior. Thank You that He loved me so much that He became a curse for me and died in my place so that by faith in His finished work on Calvary, I might be born from above and receive the many unconditional blessings of His resurrected Life. Thank You for Your SPRIT’s cleansing work in my heart. Thank You, in JESUS’ powerful Name, AMEN.
