Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, present your requests to GOD.”

Psalm 100:4-5
“Enter His gates with THANKSGIVING and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His Name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.”

WHY IS THANKSGIVING SO IMPORTANT TO GOD?

THANKSGIVING is important to GOD because it is a fundamental expression of faith and worship that acknowledges His sovereignty, faithfulness, and goodness. It demonstrates a humble dependence on GOD, reinforces a healthy relationship with Him, and is seen as a vital part of worship, akin to an Old Testament sacrifice.

Recognizes humility: GIVING THANKS acknowledges that all good things are gifts from GOD, pushing back against pride and self-sufficiency.

Shows dependence: It confirms that everything a person has and is comes from GOD’s provision and goodness.

Casts cares on GOD: The act of THANKSGIVING can be an expression of faith that GOD is caring for you, even in difficult times.

Acts as a form of worship ... A core part of worship: THANKSGIVING is presented as a vital and central component of worship, a way to enter GOD’s presence, and to magnify Him.

A constant theme: The Bible depicts thanksgiving as a theme that will continue throughout eternity, as seen in the book of Revelation.

A sacrifice: The act of giving thanks is portrayed as a form of sacrifice, a valuable offering to GOD.

Builds a relationship with God ... Strengthens the relationship: Thanksgiving is described as a key indicator of a true and vital relationship with GOD.

Fosters gratitude: It cultivates a heart of gratitude, which is a cornerstone of faith.

Sanctifies life: By giving thanks, a person can "sanctify" or set apart their circumstances, focusing on GOD’s goodness even in difficult situations.

Reflects Jesus' example ... JESUS Models the action: JESUS repeatedly gave thanks before performing miracles, such as before feeding the five thousand and raising Lazarus from the dead.

JESUS Sets a precedent: His actions underscore the importance of thanksgiving as a foundational practice for those who follow Him.

We are grateful for this food and for the gift of this time together.  LORD, thank You for the gift of life, for Your mercy and love, and for all that I have received. Help me always to recognize Your goodness and to praise You with a grateful heart.
Thank You , LORD, for this food we are about to eat. We are grateful for Your provision and ask that You would bless it. Thank you, GOD, for the joy and peace that we share in fellowship. Thank You for this precious time of THANKSGIVING together. Amen.
