1 PETER 2:9
Based on 1 Peter 2:9, you are part of “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation called out of darkness into marvelous light.”
As GOD’s special possession, your purpose is to proclaim His praises. Your identity is secured by Christ, not your own merits.
You and I Are Chosen
It is easy to feel overlooked, but GOD has intentionally selected those (you and I) of us redeemed by the blood of JESUS CHRIST, for His purpose. We are no longer defined by our past, brokenness, or imperfections, but by our position as a child of GOD. Being a "chosen generation" means that we belong to a spiritual family set apart to showcase GOD’s glory and His Kingdom. We are called to live in His light, representing Him to a world in darkness. When we walk in this identity, we are not trying to earn love, but living out the love already given to us.
This text not only appoints praise but represents a basic revelation of the Bible: GOD wants a people who will walk with Him in prayer, march with Him in praise, thank and worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. In Peter’s description, notice how the people of the New Covenant are to progress: First, we are called a chosen generation, a people begun with JESUS’ choice of the Twelve, who became 120, to whom were added thousands at Pentecost. We are a part of this continually expanding generation, “chosen” when we receive CHRIST JESUS. Then we are a royal priesthood. Under the Old Covenant, the priesthood and royalty were separated. But In CHRIST, we are now “kings and priests” (Rev. 1:6), prepared for walking with Him in the light or warring beside Him against the hosts of darkness. Next we are made a holy nation, born of JESUS’ blood, from every nation under heaven. Finally He calls us His own special people. GOD’s intention has always been to call forth a people who will proclaim His praise and spread His blessing throughout the earth. As GOD’s chosen people, let us do that today!
Prayer
Heavenly FATHER, I thank You for choosing me. I thank You for calling me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. I embrace my identity as a royal priesthood and a part of Your Holy Nation. LORD, help me to live today in a way that reflects Your holiness and proclaims Your praises. When I feel weak or unworthy, remind me that I am Your special possession. Use me to bring Your light into the world, in JESUS' Name. Be honored, praised, and glorified in and through my life, Amen.
