1 JOHN 3:1 NIV
“See what great love the FATHER has lavished on us, that we should be called children of GOD! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.”
The great love of GOD is lavishly demonstrated to us by His bringing us into His own family! And His calling us His own Children!
As people we often say, “I love you” to our own families. The expression shows kindness, carefulness, commitment and faithfulness to our closest relatives. The ones to whom we feel closest. But the love of GOD is unique in that He loves us like the father in the story of the prodigal son from Luke chapter 15. After we have abused, taken advantage of, abandoned and rejected GOD the Heavenly FATHER in our sin, He demonstrates His own love for us: “THAT WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS CHRIST DIED FOR US.”
PRAYER:
Heavenly FATHER, we are truly undeserving of the Great Love You lavished on us! And yet You prove your love and faithfulness by continuing to call us Your sons and daughters. Even after we have sinned and forgotten You, You never forget us. You pour out Your grace and peace upon us daily and we owe You our hearts and lives in gratitude. You are worthy of nothing less than our total worship! Help us today to understand who You are and everything that You’ve done for us so that we may become more like You, so that we may love the way You love! In JESUS’ great and Mighty Name, Amen.
