Philippians 2:3-4
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
In all our relationships as the followers of the Lord JESUS, we can choose our attitudes; whether we think of ourself first as priority, or humble ourself before others and think of their interests first above ourself. Our fleshy, sinful nature will always want to cater to self first. Self desires superiority, dominance, recognition and the accolade of men. It’s all about self (I, Me, Mine attitude). Selfishness started with Lucifer, and it brought about his fall from heaven. Likewise, the downfall of many resulted from their selfishness. And the only answer to this human dilemma, is to look into the life of the Lord JESUS CHRIST. He is our best example of humility and selflessness. He humbled Himself and took the form of a servant, and gave Himself up to die on the cross to rescue us from self, sin, and Satan.
JESUS selflessly did it because He values us above Himself. This is true humility: selfless-giving priority to others, and looking after their interests first above self. If our focus is on meeting the needs of others, we will not be consumed with our own self. It’s no longer about us, but about them.
This is CHRIST-like humility.
