(Lanxi, Zhejiang—Jan. 28, 2020) Authorities closed a church in China’s coastal Zhejiang province on Dec. 1. A month later, they detained five church attendees. According to a letter from a Christian, the government took items from a branch of Nubu Church. When some of the people present intervened, they were beaten, and some suffered fractures. Church members traveled to Beijing to report the incident to the higher authorities. On Jan. 3, five of the Christians were detained and charged with “gathering a crowd to disturb social order.” Three of them have since been released on bail.
