UGANDA – Muslim Father in Uganda Burns Daughter for Becoming Christian
Unable to return to her home in western Uganda due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Rehema Kyomuhendo was in the eastern part of the country when she first heard about Christ. In March she had accompanied her father, a sheikh (Muslim teacher) on a business trip from Mbarara District to Mbale District, 492 kilometers (305 miles) away, and began listening to Christian programing aired on an FM radio station. They were still at her aunt’s house in Nawuyo village, Mbale District, on May 4 when at 10 p.m. she called a business friend of her father’s whom she knew to be a Roman Catholic.......Read More
NIGERIA - Fulani militants use lockdown “leeway” to kill eight Nigerian Christians 24-hours after earlier atrocity
In the latest rampage, large numbers of gunmen stormed the villages of Bakin-Kogi, Idanu and Makyali, home to the majority-Christian Adara tribe. Scores of villagers fled their homes into the bush and to neighbouring communities. Many Christians have fled villages in Kaduna State as Fulani militants exploit the Covid-19 lockdown to step up attacks. The president of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union, Jonathan Asake, said homes in Bakin-Kogi were razed. He said the lockdown imposed by the state authorities to check the spread of Covid-19, gave the attackers the “leeway” to invade the villages.......Read More
RELEASE – Tennessee Pastor Bryan Nerren Is Finally Home!
Tennessee Pastor Bryan Nerren safely landed in Nashville Tuesday night, after seven months of detainment in India following a missions’ trip to train Sunday school teachers in Nepal and India. Save the Persecuted Christians (STPC), which advocates on behalf of hundreds of millions of Christians facing heavy persecution worldwide, has followed Pastor Nerren’s plight closely and called on President Donald Trump to help bring Nerren home. “We rejoice with the news that Pastor Bryan Nerren is back with his family, congregation and community,” said Save the Persecuted Christians Executive Director Dede Laugesen. “His homecoming was an extraordinary, concerted effort by President Trump, members of Congress and the State Department, as well as countless volunteers and community members who both took action and prayed. While we are ecstatic that Pastor Nerren is home, we remember that millions of others around the world are marginalized, imprisoned, beaten, tortured or even killed for their beliefs.”......Read More
UN – UN at ‘pivotal moment’ in bringing Islamic State fighters to justice for enslavement of Yazidis
UN investigators say they have made “significant progress” in helping Iraq collect evidence for a future trial of Islamic State fighters over their enslavement and attempted genocide of the Yazidi population. In a report submitted to the UN Security Council, investigators said they had gathered two million phone records and a trove of video and photographic evidence which could be used by Iraqi authorities for prosecution. Thousands of Yazidi women were raped and enslaved by IS at the height of its power in northern Iraq, while many Yazidi men were slaughtered. The Islamic State group’s self-declared “caliphate” that once spanned a third of both Iraq and Syria has been defeated on the ground, though its fighters are still mounting insurgent attacks.......Read More
IRAN – Anglican Church member given third prison sentence at retrial
An Iranian Anglican Church member has been reconvicted of membership of a “Zionist Evangelical Christian” group “hostile to the regime” at his retrial, and convicted of the additional charge of “propaganda against the state”.Ismaeil Maghrebinejad, 65, was informed of the verdict on Saturday, 16 May, following his retrial the previous Saturday at the 1st Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz. Judge Seyed Mahmood Sadati reached the same verdict as in his initial February ruling by giving Ismaeil a two-year sentence for “membership of a hostile group”, but added an additional year in prison for “propaganda against the state”.......Read More
