For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.’ (Psalm 139:13-14)

On the week we marked Human Rights Day, we’ve been reminded again of the need to keep praying and standing up for the fundamental freedoms that we all share as human beings.

There have been recent updates from Myanmar/Burma and on Pastor Lorenzo’s case in Cuba which you can read on our website and pray into.

We also encourage you to read our Human Rights Day blog from CEO Scot Bower, which mentions just a handful of people who we’re standing in solidarity with. Why not add their names into the prayer below?

A prayer for Human Rights Day

Lord God, we thank you that each of us is fearfully and wonderfully made in your image. Thank you for giving us freedom, dignity and purpose as human beings, and for the universal human rights we all share.

We remember all those who have been denied the full enjoyment of the right to freedom of religion or belief. We lift them up to you today.

For those who have been displaced from their home, we ask for provision of food, medicine and a safe place of refuge.

For those who have been unjustly detained or imprisoned, we ask for their immediate and unconditional release.

For those experiencing violence, harassment or worse, we ask for your divine protection today.

For those living in fear, we ask for an outpouring of peace – peace that’s beyond our understanding.

For those defending the rights of others, we thank you for their courage and expertise. Strengthen them to keep carrying out this vital work for justice.

For every person who is experiencing injustice because of their religion or belief, we ask that you meet all their needs today. Help us to keep standing with them all, until everyone is truly free to believe.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
