‘He gave justice and help to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?’ says the Lord. (Jeremiah 22:16 NLT)

The prophet Jeremiah’s words remind us what’s really important to God. The previous verse points out that ‘a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king’ – instead, what counts in the Kingdom of God is to pursue justice and righteousness. This week, please pray for one of our Chinese contacts whose defence of human rights has made him a target for harassment.

Since September protesters have gathered outside the Texas home of Bob Fu and his family, harassing them and threatening violence. The threats on his life led the family to go into hiding.

Bob Fu is a prominent pastor and human rights activist, and founder of the organisation China Aid, which provides legal assistance to Christians in China. He has been living in the US since the 90s and continues to speak up for human rights, including freedom of religion or belief.

Bob stated recently: ‘My life in the United States has been devoted to Christian ministry and the cause of freedom and human dignity.’

Last Sunday evening thousands of you joined us online for a prayer event in conjunction with the EA, Open Doors and Release International, to mark the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). It was a truly blessed and moving event, with around 3,000 people joining from all over the world.

In summary, please pray:

  • Pray Jeremiah 22:16 over Bob Fu, that everything will go well for him as he continues to give justice and help to the poor and needy, and specifically that the harassment and intimidation will cease completely.
  • Thank God for his courage and determination, and for all the help his organisation China Aid has given over the years to Christians in China.
  • Pray protection over his whole family.
