Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – An attack by suspected Boko Haram militants in Borno State claimed the lives of 110 farmers who were working in their fields on November 28. This attack is believed the largest and deadliest by the group in all of 2020, especially against civilians. The attacks took place in Koshobe village and other rural communities near the northeast city of Maiduguri. Men rode on motorcycles and shot villagers who were working in their fields that day.
This senseless act of violence is an attempt by Boko Haram to keep the area destabilized and to show that they still have the power to terrorize the people of Nigeria, despite the Nigerian government’s attempts to stop them.
This attack was likely conducted by the Abubakar Shekau faction of Boko Haram, who is known for their brutality against any and all who do not submit to their strict form of Sharia law. The other faction, known as the Islamic State West Africa Province is more known for attacks targeting government and military personnel.
Abubakar Shekau released another video several weeks ago proving that he is still alive and saying that no one can stop him because he is doing allah’s work. He uses these videos as a way to embarrass the Nigerian government, instill fear in the people of Borno State and to recruit others who are like him. Please pray for the families of those who were killed in this attack and that the government in Nigeria would be able to end this insurgency.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for comfort and peace for the families that are grieving. Pray for this community to rebuild following this attack. Pray for the authorities to quickly apprehend the attackers.
