Years ago, I was in Pakistan when I met Mrs. Mukhtar, a grieving widow whose husband had been murdered for his bold witness. He and his wife were warned many times to stop sharing the Gospel but they had a calling from the Lord that they could not stop.

At the end of our time together, Mrs. Mukhtar and I cried together as I saw clearly the desert of grief she had to cross before she could have some semblance of normalcy. What struck me was that I saw her love of the Lord was unbreakable.

Galatians 6:2 tells us to carry one another’s burdens and so often, it’s women who carry the heaviest burden in persecution. They lose their husbands, sons and daughters as well as suffer being exiled from their villages because they refuse to recant their faith. Not only that but they are targeted, kidnapped, raped and sold off because as Christians they have no rights.

These women have a deep love and devotion to Christ that outweighs the hardships they face. This convicts me of the high calling we have as believers and I hope it encourages you too. Please join me in lifting up and learning from our persecuted sisters.
