Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – On July 7th Boko Haram, a terrorist group in Africa, attacked communities in Adamawa State, Nigeria, killing no fewer than 20 people.
Daily Sun reported that the suspected terrorists fired gunshots in Dabna to announce their arrival.
“Residents scampered for safety as sporadic gunshots were heard in different parts of the community,” Adamu Isa, a survivor of the attack and a resident of Hong, told the Daily Sun.
Yesterday, President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed the attack and expressed his grief towards the innocent lives that were taken.
“This level of savagery, inhumanity and reckless disregard for the sanctity of life cannot go unpunished,’’ said Buhari. “We can’t afford to disappoint Nigerians that have entrusted their security in our hands.’’
The Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram has killed tens of thousands of Christians in Nigeria and displaced millions in an attempt to discard western influence and impose strict Islamic Sharia law. They target those who do not share their radical interpretation of Islam, often attacking villages and forcefully converting Christians, other religious minorities, and the many Muslims who they feel do not appropriately adhere to the teachings of Muhammad. While the Nigerian military has repeatedly insisted that the group has been defeated, attacks are ongoing.
HOW TO PRAY: Please pray for the end of the Boko Haram insurgency and for the Lord to soften the hearts of militants, who all too often are children forced to partake in heinous acts of violence. Please also pray for those who have been victims of terrorism, for the Lord to heal them and strengthen the church amidst persecution.
