Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Two Christian villages were attacked very early this morning in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The villages of Gon and Bolkin are Christian Farming villages that are part of Numan Local Government Area(LGA). They have long dealt with attacks perpetrated by Fulani militants and have suffered many deaths. Sadly, on Tuesday, May 12, at 2:30 a.m., Fulani militants again raided the communities and killed at least two people. They also destroyed several homes and stole supplies from the local farmers. One of the two men killed was working to help rebuild a primary school in the area that had been destroyed in a previous attack. The other has yet to be identified.
The locals had attempted to call for military support and protection, but were unable to get any aid. According to the Nigerian Tribune, the Adamawa State Police Command is saying that they did not receive any calls or reports of this attack. No soldiers have been sent to the area to ensure peace or protection for the villagers.
ICC has been working with many families in Numan LGA by providing farming assistance. They have been at least 225 displaced and victimized families who have received the aid from ICC over the past year. Thankfully, none of these families have been killed during this attack, however, they are again feeling the fear of attacks. Without aid or protection from the government, it becomes very hard for Nigerian farmers to remain on their land and to provide for their families. It is time the Nigerian government stopped these kinds of attacks. They must end the free movement of herders throughout the country. They must enforce cattle reserves or ranching techniques and ensure that the owners of land are able to grow crops in peace.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for comfort and healing for those who lost loved ones. Pray for an end to Fulani-led violence in Nigeria. Pray for protection for this Christian community.
