Around the world, millions are persecuted and discriminated against for their religious beliefs, and the United Nations General Assembly set for September plans to address this disturbing trend. According to the UN, “In many parts of the world, the attainment of SDG 16 to achieve peaceful, just and inclusive societies is challenged by circumstances of increased fragility, social tensions and conflict. In his 2019 report on the progress towards the SDGs, the Secretary General expressed concerns at ‘the uneven advances in ending violence, promoting the rule of law, strengthening institutions and increasing access to justice, which continue to deprive millions of their security, rights and opportunities and to undermine the delivery of public services and broader economic development.’”.....Read

TURKEY – Turkey systematically discriminating against Christians, Carnegie fellow says
The future of Christians in Turkey is under threat due to continuing persecution and growing intolerance triggered by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s policies, wrote Alexander Görlach, senior fellow with the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, on Tuesday. “While the world is busy fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with mass unemployment and a global recession, the Turkish government is taking advantage of the situation to further pressure minorities,” Görlach said in an article penned for Deutsche Welle.....Read More
CHINA – Hong Kong pastors face arrest, extradition to China with new security laws: watchdog
China’s blueprint for national security in Hong Kong puts pro-democracy activists, including pastors and religious leaders, at risk of being extradited to and tried in mainland China, a Christian persecution watchdog warns. A draft of the new national security laws was passed by China Friday, which targets four new levels of criminal offenses in Hong Kong, including succession, subversion of state power, local terrorist activities, and collaborating with foreign or external foreign forces to endanger national security......Read More
UGANDA – Villagers Burn Home, Beat Wife of Former Muslim Sheikh in Eastern Uganda
A former sheikh (Muslim teacher) in eastern Uganda who secretly became a Christian on Christmas Day decided to tell his two wives about his new faith last month. Marijan Olupot invited his pastor to his home in Obokora village, Obokorasub County, Kibuku District on the evening of May 14. He then revealed his Christian faith to his wives and called on the pastor to explain the gospel so that the church leader could lead his family to faith in Christ, Olupot told Morning Star News by phone.....Read More
