Yemen (International Christian Concern) – Yemen is an unstable country that is torn between “Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who overthrew the Yemeni government, [which] are pitted against a multinational coalition led by Saudi Arabia” says the Council on Foreign Relations. This conflict has been occurring over the past seven years, leaving the civilians in ruin. Specifically, about 11,000 children have been killed over the years, equaling roughly four children a day according to UNICEF. This number only includes the verified cases, the actual numbers are believed to be much higher.
The reason for the large number of children dying is mainly because community and conflict-based violence. Other reasons include a combination of malnourishment, lack of effective medical care, preventable diseases, and little access to clean water and hygiene services. The small population of Christians that reside in Yemen are mainly Muslim Background Believers (MBB’s) that keep their faith hidden for their protection. With this humanitarian crisis, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ have the added struggle of tiptoeing around persecution daily while also trying to survive normal day to day circumstances in this war-torn country.
HOW TO PRAY: Pray for protection for children throughout Yemen. Pray for a quick and peaceful resolution to this conflict. Pray for the gospel to bring hope to this region.
